Hi everyone,
I noticed in previous mails that people have had some success getting Quake III running using a GeForce graphics card. I have it installed with SuSE 6.4, XFree 4.0 and the NVidia beta driver, but when I run it I get weird sound effects (the sound is repeated about five times each time sound is played) and the response is really slow. I haven't actually managed to play it yet because the response from the menu's is to slow.
I don't think it is the sound card (sound blaster Live!) because it all works fine, the problem seems to be when I start Quake so I figured it must be the beta video drivers?.
I have both the SBLive and the GeForce and they work better than in Windows, but I have only Quake III to test it out, and some miscellaneous opengl programs, most of which look silly because they go too damn fast. There is a file /var/log/XFree86.*.log that really helped me out with some problems I was having. Look for any errors in it, especially having to do with the video drivers. Have you found all your old copies of openGL libraries around, on Suse they are in multiple places. Just move them out of the way. Here is my output from /sbin/lsmod. Yours should be similiar. Module Size Used by emu10k1 49300 1 (autoclean) soundcore 2148 4 (autoclean) [emu10k1] NVdriver 431352 17 (autoclean) Here is an excerpt from an error I received. (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so dlopen: /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so: undefined symbol: GlxExtensionInitPtr (EE) Failed to load /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (II) UnloadModule: "glx" The glx module is of course not loaded, but X would start fine. I believe the problem here was X was trying to load this module, not distributed by nvidia instead of the module it provided which resides in the extensions directory. So I just moved it out of the way. Hope this helps. jlm -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
