Shame, I thought it was just me. The printer works fine, but it's just too slow to be useful. I can't have my documents taking longer to print than they do to write!
I have a DJ870Cxi and it's painfully slow. Printing one A4 page via ghostscript takes several minutes. It seems to print one scan line at a time. Do you have this problem?
I actually stopped using Linux for desktop apps because the printing performance was so poor. I never could find anyone to help me fix the problem.
I am not a skilled SuSE user, but seeing that you did not get any answer, I can tell you I have a Dj 870 Cxi printer and it works nicely in black and white and color with the Dj 550 C driver. Did you try it ? I'm running SuSE 6.2 I wish you have it on 6.0 or maybe you can try another Dj driver.
Sure it IS slow I used it with DOS Windoze before going to linux but it was not much faster though I never went further than W3.1 into the M$ trap. however the results are good . I just bear with it and take a break or read a book while printing. I can send you a copy of my /etc/printcap if it is of any use to you ; but I suppose you must have the same. just tell me if you are interested.
