Hi list does anybody have an idea why the emu10k1 module shipped with SuSE 6.4 only support 8 bit sound? I noticed this when I upgraded from 6.3 to 6.4. While running on 6.3 I had manually installed emu10k1 from the Soundblaster web site and was running happily with 16 bit, but after upgrading to 6.4 I decided to use the stock module supplied on the CD's which bounced me back to 8 bit. After an application has come up that required a bit better sound resolution I decided to manually install the module from the most recent beta version 0.4b and am now back to 16 bit. It is weird though that while installing it my sound device got changed from /dev/audio to /dev/dsp and /dev/sndstat does not respond anymore. Can someone point me to a good sound tutorial or manual that covers the whole nine yards? So far I had to just piece the necessary information together from here and there.
