I had similar problems some time ago. IIRC, I had to make sure I had
deselected everything dependant on the parent device before I got a
clean compile. For yours try selecting MD support, it will show more
available options. Deselect all of those options and go back and
deselect MD support (you will want to use either menuconfig or xconfig
to make this simple). It may not be elegant but it should work.
