'Flashing the BIOS' ~ How is this done, please ?
Very very carefully. The first step is to accurately identify exactly what motherboard and bios version you have, prior to flashing. The following site will assist you: http://www.ping.be/bios/ Before you flash, make sure you snap an image of your current BIOS to disk, and create an emergency recovery diskette that will automatically flash your bios back to the current revision in case something goes drastically wrong with the new version. Read steps 8 and 9 in the FAQ on Wim's Bios page... http://www.ping.be/bios/HTML1/faq.html This is how I managed to recover a machine I work on regularly when a flash went bad on me. I documented the procedure I used for my machine in the discussion section, "Dead Motherboards" discussion. Search on "Argentium" on that page, and you'll see it. I can't emphasize this enough: Read, read, and read some more before you proceed. Other hints: If you're overclocking, step the machine back to the default speeds for the bus and multiplier before attempting to flash a bios. Do your flash from a system boot diskette formatted for DOS or some varient of windows, but which works entirely at the command-line level and doesn't bring up the GUI. Did I mention the "read lots prior to attempting this" already? ;-) Good luck, Argentium -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
