panics are very bad mojo that shouldnt be happening. if you post more details, maybe i or someone else on the list can help you identify the problem. hardware specs and kernel version, what services are running, and any "special" config options might help identify it. to answer your question, there are hardware 'watchdog' cards that will reboot your machine if it hangs. some motherboards also have some of these capabilities. there are also hardware power switches that can be controlled over ethernet. good luck, -- ======================================================================== Rocky McGaugh Atipa Linux Solutions Product Development www.atipa.com rocky@smluc.org rmcgaugh@atipa.com ======================================================================== On Mon, 1 May 2000, John Grant wrote:
I'm getting kernel panics occasionally that hang the machine. This is Bad because I'm not physically near the machine to press the button. Is there a way to make the system reboot instead of hang until I can get some time to look into the matter?
This only happens about once a week and the box is a router/gateway so I can't justify spending too much time on this at the moment.
