Hi! This weekend, I replaced a very slow modem with a brand-new 56K modem (115200 bps (units?)). I use FVWM, but rely on kppp as my dial-in interface. At first, I had terrible luck connecting, but after some searching though the Modem How-To, I found that sometimes, adding pauses (before sending data) to the script may be necessary when the other end is slower. I tried pauses of 1 and 2 seconds, and then 3 when I kept the log window up during a connect to see why I kept getting denied access. My user name was truncated. After going to 3 s pauses before all "send" commands, I connected without trouble several times in a row, but after that, the same old thing: something gets sent at the wrong time (for example, "ppp default" gets sent instead of my user name) and I don't make it on the network automatically: I have to enter everything by hand after I am denied access. Other than that, the modem works great! Granted, typing in my name, password, and "ppp default" every time is pretty simple, but if anyone has an idea about what is going on here and how I might be able to log in automatically again, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!
