Apologies for this (probably very dumb) newbie question, but I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me this: I'm trying dutifully to update packages identified as having security holes on the SuSE download site, and usually do it by means of rpm -U ftp://ftp.suse.com/blah.rpm This is nice, and works well, but from time to time on reading the security announcements you're asked to 'verify MD5 checksums'. How do you do that? If anyone can be bothered to explain this to me in the kind of language you would use when explaining it to a slow-witted ten year old, I will probably get it. I anyone is feeling really, really patient, I'd also like to know how to check downloaded files against the PGP signatures kind folk make available on their sites. I'm sure this is dead easy, but I don't seem to have found a source that explains what to do. Thanks for your patience (if you're not fuming at this kiddie stuff) Fergus Wilde Chetham's Library Long Millgate Manchester M3 1SB UK Tel: +44 (0)161 834 7961 Fax: +44 (0)161 839 5797 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
