[SLE] 6.4 (Yast2) -- Installation problem

Just purchased 6.4. When I try to install, Yast2 appears momentarily (message "Initializing..." shows for about 5 seconds), then goes away and I get red error message box ("An Error has occurred"). It appears that I can install using the old Yast, but that really defeats the purpose of my purchase of 6.4. I currently use Mandrake (because of the ease of installation), but always liked Suse better -- so when I read that 6.4 had graphical install, I rushed out to buy it. Could this a video-related problem? For reference, I've tried two different video cards (one AGP S3 Savage 3D, one PCI ATI Rage Pro Turbo). I tried the CD on a different machine, and it appeared to get past the "Initializing..." point and proceed with the installation. So there's obviously something about this computer Yast2 doesn't like. Any ideas?
AMD K6-2/500, 196MB, 20GB Maxtor (/dev/hda -- running win98) and 8GB Seagate (/dev/hdb -- this one will be entirely Suse Linux). SMC1211TX network card.
Thanks,
Kevin Talley (ktalley@xxxxxxxx)
