Hi there, A while ago I finally succeded in making my serial cable modem work under linux. There are still some little things that need to be ironed out though; I can't start pppd as a 'normal' user. I created a group called 'pppusers' and added my name to it. As far as permissions go my pppd looks like this: -rwsr-sr-- 1 root pppusers 135636 Aug 7 1999 /usr/sbin/pppd I also configured some permissions in /etc/ppp : -rw------- 1 root root 357 Apr 9 23:49 chatscript -rw------- 1 root pppusers 0 Apr 10 00:38 connect-errors -rwx--x--- 1 root pppusers 72 Apr 9 23:49 hangup lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Apr 5 19:32 ip-down -> ip-up -rwxr-x--x 1 root root 4524 Jul 29 1999 ip-up -rw-r----- 1 root pppusers 145 Apr 9 23:49 options -rw------- 1 root root 138 Apr 9 23:49 pap-secrets drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Apr 5 19:38 peers -rwxr-x--- 1 root pppusers 72 Apr 9 23:49 ppp-on -rwxr-x--- 1 root pppusers 168 Apr 9 23:49 ppp-on-dialer After setting the permissions I made these symbolic links: ln -s /etc/ppp/ppp-on /usr/bin/call ln -s /etc/ppp/hangup /usr/bin/hangup As root everything works smoothly. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! -- Yatsen Ng Den Haag, The Netherlands yatsenng@casema.net It said "Needs Windows 95 or better".
