Yes, I've seen that. In my circumstance it was caused by the wpo2000 setup taking so much memory and swap space during installation that the kernel VM (virtual Memory) manager began killing off tasks to make more memory for the active process. After the panels disappeared then objects on the screen until only the wpo2000 install graphic was left. Eventually, even the X server was killed and the command line appeared. Only one directory and one file got installed and it took two hours to do that! Just a shot... JLK

From time to time (without any identifiable reasons), both the lower and the upper (task) panels of KDE just vanish... Anybody else experiences this? Kppp may or may not be docked when this happens.
I also run KDE at work on Solaris 7, and never had any KDE problems.
