Have you installed the firewalls programe in yast - sec (security)? If so it should have added a file /etc/rc.firewall. From memory, it is there you will find START_FW. My advice is don't use the SuSE firewall setup. I spent a day trying to get it to work and everytime I started the firewall I couldn't connect.
