I don't really know where else to go with this. I have been banging my head against a wall trying to get HP's Web JetAdmin to create a print queue on my SuSE linux box. It just happens to be an HP Kayak XA. This is a system that I use at work. I typicall don't buy preassembled systems. I build my own. The Kayak XA is an unusual case of a system I would recomend to friends and family. That is a hard won endorsement. I was extremely happy to see that HP had put out a Linux version of JetAdmin. I have been using JetAdmin for years on both Wintel and Solaris platforms. My happiness has turned a bit sour now that I've found the HP is not supporting Linux. They are merely supporting Red Hat Linux. I have nothing against Red Hat. I'm sure they make a fine distribution. It does bother me that HP has made the JetAdmin distribution specific. This seems rather contrary to the spirit of GNU/Linux. I hope HP will find a way to work with the folks at SuSE [ http://www.suse.de or http://www.suse.com ] to find a way to create a distribution independent Web JetAdmin. I am including the SuSE Linux English language mailing list on a cc to this email in oder that the other members of our group will be aware of what I have written. SuSE creates an outstanding distribution which is gaining popularity in the US, as well as around the world. As I understan it. SuSE is the largest distributer of Linux in Europe. I'd make friend with them if I were HP. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
