Also thanks for your perceptive response to a vague question. You probably hit it. My problem description is below, but after poking around I found the tulip files in /lib/modules/2.2.10/net/. No amount of poking aroundn, however, found where the module is called. Can you tell me how to implement the -new module and how I could have found it. SUSE 6.2 eth0 failure: NIC is a LinkSys Fast Ethernet 10/100 Installation script detects eth0 as 'tulip' hub light goes out when boot script loads eth0. Ping runs correctly when 2 machines are in Win95 or with FreeBSD IP of installed machine is 192.168.1.10 IP of remote machine is 192.168.1.11 'ping 192.168.1.10' is okay PING 192.168.1.11 hangs until terminated by ^c Hardware Profile AMD K62-400; 96mb RAM; Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet Adapter(NC100) PCI standard ISA bridge ESS ES1868 Plug and Play Audio Drive Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller Aceropen FM56PVS 56000 modem ATI RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X; Chip type Mach64
