I have a Dell Lattitude Laptop dual booting 6.3 and Win98, it works fine with the LCD screen, but when in the docking station the screen goes blank when X starts. The Laptop's hot key will not switch over the display. I suspect the LCD screen is running but I haven't got round to lifting the monitor off the docking station and opening the laptop to see if the LCD is working. CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE killes X and returns to the console properly. As this is a company laptop, on which I have to run on WIN98 I have not bothered to look further, I only have the dual boot so I can demonstrate and evangelise on Linux to my colleagues,I have made a good number of conversions since I started runing SuSE just over a year ago. Hello, I'm reading that Xfree86 does not support external monitor on a laptop. Does this mean that if I use X, that I cannot use an external monitor? Somebody mentioned to me that their monitor went bad on their laptop. After hearing this, I now wonder if I could set up my laptop so that upon logging in at the consol, I could hit
F1 - for laptop monitor F2 - for external monitor
I use an external monitor on my Compaq 1270 with XFree86 in FreeBSD and it works great. I would think that it would work with with Linux but I have not enough disk space to triple boot and I need win98 and FreeBSD on the portable for field use. Should not hurt to try it in a low res mode.
