Not to be rude or anything, but regardless if you AGREE with it or not is irrelevant. I notice that about 30% of the questions on this list are about ppp and if there were not variables in everybody's systems then we would be using ROM based terminals and all would be good. ppp is a problem for people..I use to work at an ISP and we had all kinds of calls about getting connected using everything from Win 3.X to Linux. People have problems with it if they have never done it, and it's not always a piece of cake. I am so glad I have DSL now so I don't have to use ppp under any Unix .. DSL setup by comparision was smooth as a babies butt.
just my 0.02
I don't agree with that any more. If somebody wants to get online with Linux these days it's a piece of cake. kppp has worked for everybody I know and it's just as simple as Windows DUN. However, there are many people such as myself that are stuck with MS products at work. At home I am completely and utterly MS free.
I found that kppp worked fine in SuSE 5.3, and for me it worked ok in SuSE 6.0, but after that it was tempermental -- most not workable. vwdial worked fine as a replacement. Like Ben, however, I found that when I switched to ADSL the setup and install was a piece of cake. I am using a Cisco 675 as a dhcp server. YaST set it up the first time without a hitch.
