If you haven't tried this: after booting from the hard drive with with the floppy drive installed, go into yast and install the floppy drive with yast.
I've done the first part of this. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any menu option in yast that would let me install a floppy drive. Just about any other kind of hardware, but not a floppy drive.
