Yes, it is possible. To use 6.2/6.3 rpms, you'll have to do a full upgrade, as 6.2/6.3 uses a newer version of glibc. If you want to do it by ftp, try an ftp install in YaST. What you can't do, however, is download, say, the 6.2/6.3 version of Apache and install that. You'll get unsatisfied dependencies (glibc 2.1, for example) if you try that, and it won't work even if you force it with --nodeps. It looks like an ftp upgrade/install is in order...
I haven't found an explicit answer to this question, maybe there isn't one. What prompted this question? I wanted eterm. I downloaded the source but to compile it I had to download imlib. To compile imlib, I had to download libpng. To compile this, I had to get GTK. To compile GTK, ........... I think you get the picture.
