If I understand you correctly, all you need do is put a shortcut to the
networked app on the users desktop. Of course, M$ still probably wants to
install some files locally, eg. .dlls, spellcheck files etc.

What actually gets installed on the samba server ? Would it make sense to
do a network install, and then copy the full Office directory up to the
samba server ? I imagine that M$ installs with the stupid "install when
required" method, so when you try to run Word it installs it locally?

I'm about to try a little experiment shunting Office97 to my Linux
latop........
