i dont wanna start any flame wars with my experience here, i know how sensitive some people are on the list...so for all you rh users no harm intended.... Well i been reading all the good stuff that people have been saying about suse, so i may as well add my hundred dollars worth... i switched to suse for the main reason, that it was more secure out of the box than any other linux distro i have tried...i been using linux since rh51 came out and i liked linux from then on it was like a kool challange trying to set up all my hardware and such...i was just extremely bored with winders, and tired of it always crashing on me and all the data i would always loose ect... i know that linux needs tweaking outta the box but for a beginner if ya dont know what to do then your stuck!!!! thats where suse is nice not alot of tweaking needed... I thought that rh 51 and 52 were pretty good distro`s at the time cause thats all i have tried at that point, then i was really liking linux alot i spent like 10-14 hrs a day at my keyboard just seeing what all i could do and learn as much as possible, trying out diffrent distro`s... then i said ya know i like linux so much i dont mind buying a good distro to help support its develeopment..ect...i was buying books up the wazooooo...ect. then when rh60 came out im like well so far i have had good luck with it i may as well go for it and spend the 75 bucks on it, i have had good results( note i havent tried suse at that time..) as soon as i installed it alot of the apps were crashing on me and i was literally getting my box hacked 3-7 times a night...im like holy sh*t!!!!... then i reinstalled winders and went to the errata page and looked for updates to rh60 and seen like enough that if each update was food, the homless wouldnt starve for the next five years... so i decided to look more into other distros cause i felt that i was ripped off, spending 75 bucks for a free operating system that was just as bad (security wise) as winders..... thats when the local best buy had suse 61...so i hesitated cause alot of the people there didnt know anything about it cause they were all rh groupies and were talking bad about it...after a little more research i got it and after installing it right out of the box with not even a firewall up i ran on a ppp connection for 6 weeks straight without even one single breakin... or haveing to reboot at all..I was really impressed with how well it held up...and without a firewall running at that...the only reason i had to reboot was cause of a power failure from a storm we had... so i went out and bought 6 more copies and gave them all away to close friends and said here you gotta try this out you wont be disappointed... sure enough they all liked it as much as i did if not more... oh yeah btw i never had to reformat my hd after installing suse until suse 62 came out then i did a fresh install..and the same for 63 when i bought it as well... so ever since then i been a devoted suse user...its my main distro of choice...i wont lie though i still d/l other distros and play with them on a spare hd just to see how they are compared to suse....but for my main os its suse all the way..... In closing i just wanna say keep up the good work all you suse people!!!!! and as long as you keep the price just like it is 29.99 at my local best buy, i will keep on buying suse.. cause it is reasonable i think you figure one dollar for the cost of the blank cd thats 6 bucks and the rest for shipping and the cost of printing the manual, thats extremley fair in my opinion...i always buy at least 2 of every distro when i buy suse cause i keep one for myself and give away the other as a gift to someone wanting to get involved in the linux movement... btw as far as the free what is it 60 or 90 day tech support i never have used it cause all the people on this mailing list have been extremley helpful... catch ya later...... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
