Hello, I am using a Seagate Hornet 8Gb IDE tape drive, but it is not working properly. When I run 'mt status' I get the following error: tdout: mt: /dev/tape: Input/output error /var/log/messages: Feb 17 21:02:49 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 Feb 17 21:07:58 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 19, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 Feb 20 22:09:26 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 34, key = 2, asc = 4, ascq = 1 Feb 20 22:09:26 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 2, asc = 4, ascq = 1 Feb 20 22:09:26 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 1, key = 2, asc = 4, ascq = 1 Feb 20 22:12:42 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 Feb 20 22:14:16 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 Feb 20 22:14:54 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 Feb 20 22:21:13 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 Feb 20 22:24:54 cusa kernel: ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 $ dmesg | grep ide-tape ide-tape: hdd <-> ht0, 600KBps, 14*26kB buffer, 2600kB pipeline, 190ms tDSC ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 19, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 34, key = 2, asc = 4, ascq = 1 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 2, asc = 4, ascq = 1 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 1, key = 2, asc = 4, ascq = 1 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 ide-tape: ht0: I/O error, pc = 10, key = 7, asc = 27, ascq = 0 I just bought this tape a month ago, and haven't been using it frequently at all. I don't have the money to buy another tape to verify it works, but am starting to wonder if this is a possible explanation. I have had this tape drive working before, but remember always seeing these errors here and there, but thought nothing. I have spent a several hours searching for information regarding this error, but can't find anything relevant to this specific problem.
