It's not just a matter of the cost of the OS...
The RA server is not cheap... I plan to try
to get RA to donate a server to the EarthKAM
project... I really feel bad that I'm excluding
the Linux community, especially since I've been
using Linux since the late 80s and truly LOVE
what it stands for... However, I was able to
put this WMP server together for the $99 cost of
a Happaugue WinTV card... Every other piece
of equipment in this Webcast has been donated
to the EarthKAM project. EarthKAM lives mostly
by corporate donations. If it wasn't for the
generosity the companies like Sun, 3Com, Intel, IBM,
just to mention a few, EarthKAM would not exist...
It's sometimes challenging to say the least,
fortunately many people believe in what EarthKAM
is doing. We now have engaged over 10,000 students
in classrooms around the world and we will continue
to expand once we get our camera in the International
Space Station. The fact that EarthKAM can excite
young minds around the world to do science is
what keeps me going... It's certainly NOT because of
my salary!!! So I do the best I can the cheapest
way I can with what we can get donated...

Once again, I apologize for excluding the Linux
community from the EarthKAM webcast, but I promise
that I will do my best to have an alternative by
EarthKAM's next mission.

Thank you all very much for your support -- alann
