whois on first IP gave notting, but the second returned this: I also did a ping on the ip and it responded, but nslookup said: ** ns.humanet.se can't find 212.177.241.239: Non-existent host/domain
try using the host ns.internic.net
I never use telnet, only ssh. used it before I got ssh, so is it just to comment out in the inetd script then? and how to rerun inetd... kill -HUP pid?
I'm a bit worried to such things as I'm so far away from my server and a cold restart or even "service" needed = lots of complications.
But kinda have to take the risk now.
in your inetd.conf file, put the # character in front of the services you don't need (like telnet) as far as i remember, the following would be good to get rid of: Telnet,Shell, Login, talk, ntalk, pop3, http-rman, btx, rplay, and midinet. Your SSH is running a different process, so don't worry. (if I am wrong can someone point it out please. to restart inetd, do: # killall inetd # inetd this i found to be the best way, without restarting. but you want to make sure no-one is logged in via your ports or they will be rudely disconnected. ryan --The only way to keep a machine fully secure is by turning it off, locking it in a steel-cast room with armored guards and no way to get in, but even still I wouldn't be to sure-- -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
