I have already posted a call for help but did not get much response. Let's try again. I have this 4 computers home network: - a server (SuSE 6.3) with a hp890 connected (print fine) - 2 windows boxes connected via samba (print fine) - 1 newly set up linux (Suse 6.3) box. For some obscure reason that eludes me, I can't print from from the linux box - I thought it would be easier than from a win box via samba, but it is apparently not the case. I followed the instructions in the SuSe handbook, i.e use Apsfilter SETUP and set up a remote printer first, then a local : lp not startedhp890 prefilter. I've just realized that the LP module was not loaded during boot-up. If I load it manually (modprobe lp), it loads five, and appears in the list (lsmod), but like this lp .......... unused. Command such as lpq, lpr lead to the message "command not found". I've cheched and rechecked the kernel options, retried with the SuSe out-of-the-box kernel, but always get the same problem. I would appreciate any advice. thanks -- ______________________ Courtesy of SuSE Linux Kernel 2.2.14 (but who cares?) I have already posted a call for help but did not get much response.
