Hello, yes but it would be nice if kinks were worked out with such things as cut-n-paste between various programs, if fonts looked great right out of the box, and a bit easier to choose other languages other than English. It's nice to be able to purchase a hot rod off of the lot, but it's even better to purchase one that has been tuned up, washed, waxed, and the knocks taken out of the engine. Hello SuSE users, and Linux users in general.
This is only indirectly related to SuSE; it's more a general Linux topic.
We should all pat ourselves on the back because we are among the cream of the crop; we use an OS that "has a long way to go" in becoming an OS that "your mother can use".
It seems one disgruntled Canadian feels that Linux could be -- and should be -- designed for the average, idiot user. The author rambles on about how programmers should be "locked in a basement", and claims that developer-centered ideas are hostile towards the averge Joe user. In the same breath, the author acknowledges that these same basement-dwelling programmers and their "leadership and willingness" are required for the "Linux for the masses" to become a reality.
Personally I'm against the whole idea of "Linux for the masses"; I would rather encourage that people use their God-given brain. Linux was not intended to be designed around the idiot user; I pray that I never here Linus mutter the MS motto: "Doesn't matter if it works right as long as it looks good".
Check it out and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts:
