Russell, The output from catting /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info is CD-ROM information, Id: cdrom.c 2.56 1999/09/09 drive name: hdc drive speed: 0 drive # of slots 0 Can close tray: 1 Can open tray: 1 Can lock tray: 1 Can change speed: 1 Can select disk: 0 Can read multisession: 1 Can read MCN: 1 Reports media changed: 1 Can play audio: 0 So, according to this, teh CD-ROM cannot play audio at all. This is wrong! Under all previous version of Suse since 5.2 it has been able to do so. So, the question arises, how do the above parameters get set? Is it something in the kernel? A kernel module? or something else. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I note that the version of cdrom.c appears to be from Spetember of last year, so maybe something got messed up there?
