I use a Matrox G400 32MB AGP DH with Suse6.3 and XFree3.3.6, works fine without multihead support. Multihead is supported in Xi-Graphics accelerated X-servers, but are commercial ones. Multihead and whole accelerated 3D features will be supported in XFree4.0 (see matrox pages). I advise you to buy Matrox and wait for XFree4.0 release... About X performances, XSVGA server readme file mentions XFree + Matrox cards is one of the best supported and accelerated X server. I know it's true ;-) Have fun ! joe lerch wrote:
Could somebody advise me a good 32 MB or 64 MB AGP graphic card that will work well with all Linux graphic intensive applications. Does somebody know if new Matrox G400 32 MB AGP card will work with Linux?
My son uses a G400 with 32 megs with SuSE 6.3. However, I don't know if the multi head feature works with linux using xfree86. I do know one of the commercial servers does support the multi head feature, I am not sure which one, perhaps Accelerated X. I also seem to remember that the G400 was listed as the fastest with the commercial x server tests, but you would have to check their web pages, it has been a while since I saw that note on Linux Today.
