Hi, Seen this before - read ahead... ** > I am a bit baffeld. This is a netbios name isn't it. But even then it ** > is a workgroup, this does not mean a machine with that name must exist ** > does it? Yep - Windows strikes again. This is to comply with WINNT 4 servers which actually do have relatively good TCPIP and serve systems names through DNS (when they use DNS that is instead of WINS(crap)). Win2k is even worse for this problem. It makes my damn FreeBSD router dial out all the time. I've had to ipfw out the IP of the Win2k box. ** The only thing that i can think of that is even remotly like what you ** are describing is the hidden little option in Windows to use DNS for ** your netbios resolution if there is not Netbios name for a box that ** you are querying.. Might not be what you are experiencing.. But that ** is the only thing that i could think of :) Yes - this should work. It did on my network.
