Hello Eilert,
It is not possible to change ownership and permissions for files and directories on a vfat partition because the vfat file system doesn't support such information.
Too bad. But since I'm the only person working on this pc I can live with it. However, is there a an alternative? What if I really needed to protect my vfat partitions from being tampered with? But you can set the ownership (user, group)
and permissions for all files and directories on a vfat partition by using the mount options uid, gid and umask. See `man mount' (section "Mount options for fat") for more information.
That's odd; I did it the regular way and it worked fine! For example, I changed permissions (added write permssion) on the msdos.sys file by simply doing a $ chmod 644 msdos.sys -- Yatsen Ng yatsen.ng@brunel.nl Den Haag, The Netherlands It said "Needs Windows 95 or better".
