I've been getting this error for some time, too. I decided I can live with it. On Fri, 04 Feb 2000, Volker Kuhlmann wrote:
With SuSE 6.3, my netscape always starts with an error sayng that a pdf-related plugin could not be loaded:

You try to load a libc5 plugin into a glibc netscape. This cannot work.
Thanks for the answer Thorsten, makes perfect sense, but this is with an out-of-the-box 6.3 installation. I even deleted ~/.netscape and started again because people reported trouble with netscape crashing due to old preference data.
rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/bin/communicator netscape-4.70-1
A "rpm -Vv netscape" comes out clean.
LD_PRELOAD is unset. No plugins (other than netscape's defaults) are configured by me. The plugin-list file is empty but for nullplugin and some default. I have not changed ld.so.conf.
The error is not serious - just visually unappealing. And this kind of thing makes me think there's perhaps something more serious wrong with my system. Obviously it isn't happening for others.
Thanks for any more thoughts someone might have...
