The RPM database is corrupted; please, try to issue:
rpm --rebuilddb
Thanks, Karl. This fixed the problem perfectly. Does this corruption happen often ? I have seen mention of it on the various lists, but have never had it happen on any of my machines. Maybe I just made a lot of people jealous; sorry.
