Just to add some information to the problem.
wvdial seems to call pppd with the usepeerdns option, which I *think* sets the
environment variable $USEPEERDNS in /etc/ppp/ip-up, and ip-up then fiddles
with my resolv.conf. I dont know how I can make wvdial call pppd without
the usepeerdns option. I'd rather not edit ip-up and remove the 'lets modify
resolv.conf'.

Subject: caching only nameserver

From: A Nourai
I would like to set up a caching only namserver.
I have the appropriate packages installed (bind 8.2.2).
I have read the DNS-HOTTO on caching only nameservers.
I am to edit /etc/resolv.conf and put in nameserver 127.0.0.1.
However I use wvdial, and it overwrites /etc/resolv.conf with the DNS's it
obtains form my ISP.
I have already told yast not to touch my resolv.conf in /etc/rc.config.
Could I please have some help in overcomming this problem?
Thank you.
