[SLE] SoundBlaster Live 1024 under SuSE 6.3??

I have just obtained and installed a SoundBlaster Live 1024 card in order to
be able to use it with SuSE Linux 6.3. I have installed it OK under Win98
but have had no joy yet with Linux. On SuSE's website there is a page
entitled 'SoundBlaster Live under SuSE 6.3' where they indicate that the
emu10k1 file on the distribution CDs is faulty, and there is a link to a
version of that file that is supposed to be OK. This I have downloaded to a
floppy, but I have been unable to progress beyond here.
As a newcomer to Linux I'm trying to follow the instructions to the letter,
but firstly I don't know how to install the new version of emu10k1 that I
have just downloaded, because the page says nothing about how to install
it:-(
So I tried to follow the instructions for using the older version on the CDs
and have installed it from Yast OK. Then it says:
cd /usr/lib/emu10k1-0.4.SuSE
...but when I do that it says that the file or directory doesn't exist.:-(
Then I changed directory to the floppy so that ls shows the filename
emu10k1 on screen, i.e. I believe the file is in my current directory, and
tried to follow the next instruction, which is:
./install_emu10k1
...but that fails in the same way, file or directory doesn't exist!
I would be most grateful if someone would talk me through getting sound
working with this new SBLive card as I don't seem to be getting anywhere with
SuSE's instructions. I also have just discovered that the card is not yet
supported under ALSA, so I'm a bit stuck...:-(
Thanks for nay help received,
Richard
