The problem is two-faceted: 1. Windows looking at Linux files requires that Samba be running on your linux system. Check "man smb.conf" for more on setting up samba. 2. Linux looking at windows files requires that the SMB file system (provided by the smbfs module) be mounted with the smbmount command. smbmount is part of the Samba package, but doesn't require any setup other than having a mount point directory created for the remote windows file system. See "man smbmount" BTW, what was the fix to your ping problem? Jim On Wed, 26 Jan 2000, Nevada wrote:
Since posting my ifconf and netstat readouts I have gotten the two boxes to talk to each other with a ping from each box to the other. I now have to get the linux box to see the files on the windos95 box. I think I have to configure samba to do this - is this right. Also I am wondering if fstab has to have any kind of entry in it to see the windos95 files. Once samba is set up, will the windos95 box be able to see the linux box's files?
Any help on setting up samba would be appreciated.
tks, nevada
