Hi, This "kernel: VM: killong process X" is starting to annoy me. I do have a runaway process but NOT the kernel does NOT kill it!! Instead it kills other *NECESSARY* processes ( e.g. X). It there anyway that: the "VM killing" can be delayed and an error message given; or that certain processes can be made safe from VM; or that a specific signal can be used to tell the process that it will be killed by the VM Otherwise when you have unknowledgeable users who see that when they started a new process or worked on something, that suddenly they can be logged out of the system ( especially if X is killed ), or some other process which is quite necessary (e.g. kwm or kpanel ) but where "clueless" users would not have any idea what happened or how to fix it - other than to do what they have always done with Windoze - and reboot !!! There must be a better solution or have I missed something completely.
