Can't seem to find coverage of this particular problem, and SuSE support hasn't responded after about a week -- Cannot boot into runlevel 2 from LILO on /dev/hda1 (first IDE master). CAN boot from Linuxconf's "boot installed system" menu option, specifying the same root partition as in /etc/lilo.conf. Error messages are at end of boot process, after tty1-6 are started. First, various services such as kbd, apache, etc., called in /etc/init.d/rc2.d scripts fail because "/usr/sbin/<executable> cannot be found". Afterwards, errors are of type "INIT: /dev/ttySx: respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes" (or something like that). Please help! My question is, why can I boot from linuxconfig and not from HD? I should mention that kerneld starts at boot (which is probably wrong) and that I built an initrd image using mk_initrd, which seems to be detected and decompress just fine at boot. Installed (after formatting with fdisk) SuSE 6.3 "minimum system" config. w/ precompiled 386/486 kernel (using yast1) on the following system: Cyrix 6x86 processor (autodetects as i586) 2 IDE hard disks: 1st has LILO in MBR, /dev/hda6 mounted on / size 600M below cyl. 1025; /dev/hda5 mounted swap, size 128M; 2nd /dev/hdb5 mounted /usr, size 1.2G; /dev/hdb6 mounted /opt; ATAPI CD-ROM that works w/ no problems RAM: 64M Weird components: none Any help will be most appreciated.
