I've been trying to build the gfontview program, and the build process dies because the ld loader, invoked by the c++ compiler, cannot find the files and libraries that it needs. The problem actually showed up in the first step, when I called ./configure, since the c++ compiler was unable to compile and load a tiny test program. Specifically, the message I got was: /usr/i486-linux/bin/ld: cannot open crtbegin.o: No such file or directory I tried locating the file crtbegin.o and moved it into the current directory. I then got the message: /usr/i486-linux/bin/ld: cannot open -lgcc: No such file or directory I've looked through the Info material on ld but haven't found any clues to what is going on. I've also verified that I have libgcc in my SuSE configuration. Any suggestions?
