I thought i would post this as others may be experiencing similar problems after migrating to 6.3......... previously under 5.3 and 6.1, i had been running OSS for sound, for some reason i decided to use ALSA when i installed 6.3......this is why i had irq problems. /etc/modules.conf needs to be edited per the README.SuSE found in /usr/doc/packages/alsa ......i changed the pci irq_reserve line to reserve irq 5, which my soundblaster 16 needed and NOT the default 9,10,11,12 that alsaconf apparently uses. i can now use ttyS2 and ttyS3 with the irq's as they are jumpered on the card. hey, is there a way to set up irq sharing? forgive me for using the DOS com lingo here.... i have a palm pilot cradle attached to ttyS3, i don't have any available irq's, (i think), and i can't use the port because of this .......seems like i should be able to use the irq of my modem if i'm not using the modem (which is also using irq 3)at the time, but setserial just returns "resource busy", i have tried all the others that might be usable like 5,7,9,11 all are being used according to setserial...... running 6.3, the serial card is a four port MCT-2S-1 with 16C550 UARTs with com 1 and 2 using standard address and irq, com 3 uses normal address and is jumpered for irq 9, com 4 uses standard address and is jumpered for irq 11, (this worked fine under 6.1 BTW), boot log shows four port recognized but reports standard irq settings i.e. com3=irq4 and com4=irq3....../proc/interupts shows no entries for irq 9 or 11. i really would like to also have com3 work for my digital camera...... ideas? TIA, don
