[SLE] A proper image format for transparent logo background and layers?

Hello Linux folks! I was trying to create a couple of logos with transparent background and three layers in GIMP. It was pretty easy. But when I tried to export and save my logos I stacked with the problem what image format can handle transparency and layers in the same time. This image format should be easy readable with any browser over Internet. Does somebody know the answer? Any help is gladly appreciated.
