Subject: Re: [SLE] Problems with SCSI emulation

I use SCSI emulation on my HP-7200 CD-RW.

Here's what I did:
Build a new kernel with the following changes in the kernel
configuration...

In 'Block Devices'
IDE/ATAPI CDROM support = N
SCSI emulation support = Y
Loop device support = M (This will let you mount an image file as a
drive before you burn the image.
Nice for verifying the image.)

In 'SCSI Support'
SCSI Suport = Y
SCSI CDROM Support = Y
SCSI Generic Support = y

In "SCSI Low-Level Drivers'
No to everything

After the kernel is compiled, put a blank floppy in the drive, go to
/usr/src/linux, and type 'make bzdisk'. This will make a boot floppy
with your new kernel on it. Boot that and you should see both of
your CD's detected as IDE and then later as SCSI. Now, you can
play with your new SCSI drives (remember that they've moved,
they're no longer /dev/hdc & /dev/hdd) without screwing up a
working pure IDE system. I've had rotten luck with LILO, so I
just use a boot floppy. I keep 3 extra boot disks just in case one
fails.
