ok, on some headless pc's (and mouseless/keyboardless) i've got suse 6.2 installed. they
log these messages continuosly:

Nov 29 02:46:27 nd2 mingetty[23970]: /dev/tty1: cannot open tty: No such
device

device
Nov 29 02:46:29 nd2 mingetty[23991]: /dev/tty4: cannot open tty: No such
device

the problem goes away when i connect a keyboard/mouse. in inittab there is:

# getty-programs for the normal runlevels
# # <id>:<runlevels>:<action>:<process>
# # The "id" field MUST be the same as the last
# # characters of the device (after "tty").
1:123:respawn:/sbin/mingetty --noclear tty1
2:123:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:123:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:123:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:123:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:123:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6
#

i assume that if i comment out these entries my problem will go away, but that
i'll not be able to login if i do put a head on these machines, is that
correct?
