I like using kfm as well, but I use it with Xfce, and start it via a rxvt
session so I can turn it off when I don't need it. Another nice file manager
that puts easy to use icons and allows you to drag programs and directories
in a "windows" ( or OS/2) type fashion is Desktop File Manager or DFM . I got it
through http://www.freshmeat.net by searching for dfm. DFM is pretty nice too,
right click to get to the settings, including the background, fonts etc.
