Set your modem up for com3 (since some video cards still arrogate com 4 address
space to themselves). Use a non-standard IRQ, to avoid the IRQ conflict with with com1
IRQ 4.
In my case I use IRQ 9, but some motherboard/video combinations may not like this
IRQ, in which case check further for a free interrupt.
Try running the setserial command from root to set up your com3 port and IRQ, and
then determine whether your modem actually functions in its new home. If so, then edit
/sbin/init.d/serial to set up your com 3, IRQ whatever at boot.
Sometimes bootup seems to cheerfully ignore things edited in the /serial script; in that
case the brute-force approach would be to put a run_setserial line in your boot.local
instead.
