no, i don't think he has - it just explains why you (and i) have got
192.168.1.254 sitting in ifconfig. this is what it puts in temporarily until it
gets its real address. it is used to open an interface to transmit on. in our
cases it's not getting its real address, and so it just leave us with the
192.... address. we've just got to figure out why we're not getting any dhcp
offers (have you checked /var/log/messages to check whether or not you're
getting an offer?)
