This might be a bit irritating, the number xosview shows next to "mem"
is the mem used by applications. the total lengh of the bar in relation
to the blue bar is the total memory. (interpret like 96 MB mem, 16M used
by apps, 23 Buffered, 40 shared, 17M free). Try "top" from the shell
and look at the line starting "Mem:" (quit by pressing q) What does the
system load (first bar in xosview display?)

In case you realy find no more than 16 MB, consult your computer setup
for parameters that might limit memory to just that.
