I just got my SuSE 6.2 disks and updated from 6.1. I have a couple of
Linux computers plus a couple of Windows computers sharing files with Samba
on a home network. It all works fine.
I have been using a dial-up connection to an ISP with Linux, plus a
separate dial-up connection for my Windows machines. Since the connection
is so slow I didn't feel the need to run everything through the Linux
box.
This Thursday they are coming out to install my cable modem. They have
instructed me to have a Windows computer available so they can install and
test the line. From there I am on my own as far as Linux is concerned.
I need to use Linux on a dedicated old Pentium so Windows and Linux
computers will share the cable connection. I need to keep the crackers
out. I don't even know the terminology surrounding firewalls, filters,
gateways, masquerading, so I don't even know what I am looking in
resources.
Is there a resource on one of those six CDs which will take me through this
step by step?
