Jim,

I would hesitate to upgrade to the later YaST since this may cause
incompatibilities with your 5.3 version. I am running 5.3 on an old 486
notebook and have had severe problems using the next higher version
(the one that comes with 6.0) with it.
I suggest the following: download a fresh rpm package from the 5.3
directory on the suse ftp site.
Uninstall yast as root by typing rpm -U yast
then install the fresh package by typing rpm -i yastxxxx.rpm
(where the x's denote the stuff that you have to fill in from the
filename that the fresh package has).
I hope it will work for you.
