Thanks for your help sofar, but with Yast I somehow cannot resolve these
dependences. Let me describe what happens:
As described in the book I open Yast, choose "Change/create configuration"
go to xap, indicate that I want to install rasmol (for instance, the same
thing happens with everything I try to install or change) and then,
whatever key I press, I am presented with a menu that says:
Confirmation Discard changes? Then if I press "no" I am get the same as   
before, and if I press "yes" I am back in "series selection".
Again, this happens if I press F1, F2, F5, F10. Esc brings me back to
series selection immediately.
So yast is not very helpful here I'm afraid.
