Interesting promo - run Linux without installing it. It's Mandrake
Linux using the Live CD concept from SuSE.
I was sceptical at first as it promised to load and go with no
configuration and no installation. My videocard was not VESA, so,
following the instructions, I told it to run in 800x600 SVGA mode by
typing 800svga at the lilo boot: prompt. It loaded Linux and started
KDM in 800x600 64K color mode and properly detected my mouse. No muss,
no fuss, and it did it all from a CD-ROM quicker than loading Windows
from a hard drive.
Positive points:
- good demo
Negative points:
- Networking VERY difficult to configure and the errors were in French.
I don't speak French.
- Still lacks the ability for a newbie to save their work so it's still
there when they restart the system.
- Corel would not give permission for WordPerfect to be included in the
demo.
Potential:
- Using a CD-ROM and a floppy, you can run Linux at work on a Win
machine and not worry about trashing it.
I think it is definitely worth burning a CD to try it out.
Any native German speakers care to help them translate a web page?
