Hi,
I'm currently running SuSE 6.0 with the 2.2.7 kernel on an AMD 5x86 133
VIP motherboard, and I think a Cirrrus Logic video card (a VLB card, I
believe--I haven't looked under the hood in a while.
As things go at my house, the migration down from machine to machine has
freed up an ABIT IT5H (rev 2.0) board, with a Cirrus Logic 6x86L 200 CPU and
a Matrox Mystique (I think that's what it is) PCI video card. When I went
from a generic motherboard with a 486 dx2-66 chip and a trident video card
to the VIP/AMD/Cirrus combo, I didn't have any problems at all. That was
when I was using SuSE 5.3.
I expect I'll have to recompile my kernel. The first question is, can I
just pop the new equipment in *before* recompile, or will I need to do
something else? In a pinch I could probably delay things a bit longer while
I upgrade one or another hard disk drive, and migrate one of those down.
Then I could just install SuSE 6.2, which is retailing in the Boston area
for $29.95.
Thanks,
Stan Koper
